Description

Enjoy the timeless allure of a Zulucow Nguni Cowhide Rug: a unique statement piece which effortlessly complements both traditional and contemporary home aesthetics. Zulucow’s rugs are individually selected for their quality, beauty and dramatic markings. The Cowhide Rugs are priced according to their size.

Zulucow’s rugs are robust and easy to clean. Unlike woollen rugs they do not have a hollow fibre and so do not absorb wine, liquid or dirt. (The fluid just slides off and you can shake or vacuum off dried dirt easily)

The Zulus have long revered their Nguni cattle for their beauty and versatility. The Nguni who roam the ‘veld’ (African grassland) have always been primarily bred for their meat.) Historically, the Zulus bred symmetry into their cattles’ hides for use in shields, rugs and ceremonial clothing.

Due to their natural origins, the measurements of each rug vary, with an approximate size of 2m x 180cm. Email me: lucy@zulucow.co.uk if you’d like more photos of a specific hide and measurements.

Cleaning instructions

If your Zulucow Cowhide Rug gets dirty, wait for the dirt to dry; shake the rug and then brush or vacuum it in the direction of the hair. Soak up any liquid spills with a paper towel/tea-towel. With a damp cloth dipped in warm soapy water, gently dab the mark out. Try not to get the hide too wet as it is natural leather.

Sustainable sourcing

At Zulucow, sustainability isn’t a bolt-on; it’s the backbone of how we design, source and make our cowhide bags, belts and homeware accessories.

All our Nguni cowhide pieces are created from a by-product. We do not believe in farming for fashion.

Ethical labor
