Where my journey of purpose and empowerment began?

After leaving my career at the BBC and embracing motherhood, I felt a calling to channel my energy into something meaningful. This was something that would give back to the communities that had left an indelible mark on my soul. With my South African husband by my side, I embarked on a quest to build a purpose-driven enterprise. One that would celebrate the strength and resilience of the Zulu women. The resilient and inspiring women I had encountered throughout my life.

Consequently, my vision for Zulucow was clear from the outset: to create a business with a transparent supply chain. One that would bypass middlemen and forge direct connections with the artisans themselves. This decision was more than just a business strategy; it was a testament to my belief in ethical commerce and the power of human connection.

Why Zulucow?

In the rolling hills of KwaZulu-Natal, I found Ma Beatrice. A wise and remarkable woman whose spirit embodied the resilience of her people. Alongside her daughter and a collective of Zulu women, they transformed discarded leather and cowhide offcuts into exquisite bags. This trade bore the essence of their heritage.

Additionally, the journey with Ma Beatrice. Ma Philippine and the Zulu women was transformative. We’ve forged bonds of friendship and collaboration that transcended borders and cultures. In a country marked by economic uncertainty and social upheaval, these women found strength and purpose in their craft. They are defying the odds and inspiring me to do the same.
