Cameroon Beaded Shields

Hand carved from a a piece of wood, with a shield handle and hanger at the back. These beautiful pieces of decorative art were traditionally used as defensive weapons. In Cameroon tradition, an individual’s status and wealth was reflected by the beauty of his shields. Each shield takes at least 2 days to make; with its exquisite, intricate beadwork.  (The shields’ diameter is approximately 60cm)
